Insights from Trailing Wi-Fi-Based Home Security

The Challenge

Our client, a global telco brand, wanted to explore a Wi-Fi-based home security solution. To decide on a full-scale launch, the client sought research on usability, consumer experience, and perceived value across diverse home environments. Key questions focused on ease of setup, daily integration, and refining the product’s appeal and functionality.

Our Approach

Our research aimed to provide a clear recommendation on the system’s commercial viability through a multi-phased approach. First, we recruited a diverse sample of households with varying demographics and security needs to capture a range of user experiences. During six-week in-home trials, households integrated the system into their routines, offering insights on setup, usability, and engagement. Data was gathered through surveys, interviews, and in-app analytics, focusing on setup ease, sustained use, system integration, perceived value, and barriers like privacy and technical issues.

The Outcome

Based on these insights, among other speicfics, we recommended that the global telco brand launch with a clear communication strategy addressing privacy and data security. We also advised exploring flexible pricing models and enhancing customer support resources to ease adoption.

This research provided a robust foundation for the global telco brand to assess the feasibility of launching a Wi-Fi-based security solution, ultimately guiding their decision to invest further.
